The new Fremantle District Police Complex located on South Terrace will include a custody centre comprising of six cells and a sally port, designed to enhance both police and public safety.

The fit-for-purpose four-storey building will also co-locate vital Fremantle police resources including detectives, forensics and district intelligence, which are currently housed in separate leased premises.

When completed, the Fremantle District Police Complex will be the second largest in the State after the Perth Police Complex.

It means as the WA Police Force continues to grow, there will be capacity to accommodate more officers.

Comments attributed to Police Minister Paul Papalia:

"We have the highest quality and best-equipped Police Force in the nation, and this new state-of-the art facility will provide Fremantle police with everything they need to get the job done and keep the community safe.

"We are also growing the WA Police Force like never before, with more than 7,250 officers currently patrolling our streets.

"The Fremantle District Police Complex will be the second biggest in the State and have capacity to accommodate more officers."

Comments attributed to Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk:

"This new police complex in the heart of Fremantle sends a clear message to residents and local business owners that keeping the community safe is a priority for the Cook Labor Government.

"The new facility will not only help police address the challenges that come with having an inner-city entertainment precinct, but it will also add enormous value to the local economy.

"The Cook Labor Government has committed hundreds of millions of dollars towards new infrastructure in Fremantle - including a new police station, a new traffic bridge, and upgrades to Fremantle Hospital - work that will take the city through the 21st century and beyond."
