- $3 million investment to redevelop the ageing Burswood Park playground
- New facility to revitalise popular family attraction
- Contemporary design to inspire children's development and imagination
The Cook Government will invest $3 million to elevate the appeal of Burswood Park reserve and attract more visitors to the precinct.
Already a popular location for families with young children, the 28-year-old playground has exceeded its expected lifespan.
The investment, which will be part of the 2024-25 State Budget, will see ageing infrastructure replaced by a new modern play area designed to appeal to a broader age range.
Detailed design work is yet to be completed but accessibility and modern safety features - including an appropriate safety enclosure - will be key considerations during the development process.
Designers will be tasked with delivering a space children of all abilities can enjoy while incorporating innovative, interactive and educational elements to stimulate cognitive development, creativity and problem solving.
The replacement of the playground aligns with the Burswood Park Board's long-term vision for the precinct to enhance social connections through a vibrant and active community space.
Comments attributed to Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia:
"The Burswood Park playground has proven to be a popular location with families for close to three decades.
"What was once a destination play area is now ageing making maintenance more challenging and replacement parts harder to come by.
"Replacing the current playground with a contemporary design using modern materials will reinvigorate the area and encourage more families to visit the precinct."
