- $8.2 million deck infill project completed at the Australian Marine Complex
- Enhances utilisation of recently extended 310 metre wharf in Henderson
- Supports critical maintenance of commercial and Defence vessels
The completion of an $8.2 million Deck Infill upgrade project has increased the capacity of the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) in Henderson to service commercial and Defence vessels, including Anzac Class Frigates.
The AMC2 wharf works provide improved vehicular and crane access on the wharves to support critical marine maintenance and sustainment requirements for both commercial and Defence vessels.
Combined with the adjoining recently extended AMC1 wharf, the combined length of the AMC1 and AMC2 wharves has increased to approximately 310 metres.
The wharf upgrade works at the AMC are part of a suite of State Government initiatives aimed to improve efficiencies at the complex. These works support Western Australian businesses engaged with the sustainment of the Defence Fleet, as well as servicing the oil and gas, resources and energy industries.
Located in Perth's premier industrial corridor, just 23 kilometres south of the Perth CBD, the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) is one of only two naval shipbuilding locations in Australia and is Western Australia's key shipbuilding and sustainment industrial precinct, supporting the manufacturing, fabrication, assembly and maintenance requirements of the marine, defence, energy and resource industries.
Comments attributed to Lands Minister John Carey:
"Increasing the capacity of our decks and wharfs ensures critical projects can be undertaken in our State, providing more job opportunities and diversifying the WA economy.
"The upgrades will assist with meeting the increasing demands of other industries vying for wharf and berthing spaces to support fabrication, vessel maintenance and servicing at the AMC Common User Facility."
Comments attributed to Defence Industry Minister Paul Papalia:
"These upgrades improve the AMC's capacity to service Defence vessels and reaffirms the shipyard's position as the national centre of excellence for Anzac class frigate sustainment.
"The Cook Government is committed to developing the naval shipbuilding and sustainment industry and is working with the Commonwealth on further works that will improve the capability of the site."
